Te Kohanga Drive
A back yard that flows into the Tūhaitara Coastal Park, the wetlands of Pegasus, North Canterbury.
This project runs a little closer to home, with a heavy involvement on the architecture and design of the entire house, not just the interiors.
The client (Sam’s mum) has an appreciation of good design but equally wanted it to feel like home, with different spaces they could migrate to depending on sun location and time of day. Two main courtyards feature in this home. One for the eastern morning sun, the ideal coffee spot to read the paper and watch the native birds in the wetlands. The other sitting on the north-western side for those afternoon wines and bbq’s.
The palette of this home features mostly natural materials of gaboon plywood cabinetry, hoop pine ceilings, concrete floors, bamboo decking and timber cladding. One that sits proudly on the edge of the wetlands flowing seamlessly into the landscape.
